On a country drive I parked my car and shot a series of photographs, shooting across the highway to capture this sequence. After shooting the sequence I recorded two audio notes on my camera and took two photographs showing my position, in relation to my parked car, one from the start of the sequence and one at the end.
First audio note, with transcript below
"This sequence of pictures I took of this elm out in the field by pointing the cross hairs in the view finder at the base of the tree and walking one step to the left in-between every frame. The last picture of the sequence shows how far I walked from the car and I guess the number of frames will tell you how many steps that is. The cross hairs worked quite nicely for lining up the image. I was surprised at how many cars drove by while I was doing this. Something I had to be careful of is - as I stepped to the left, took a picture, and then stepped, I would keep my (end of tape)." (Saturday July 17, 2004, 9:22 AM)
Second audio note, with transcript below
"And I noticed that sometimes I would creep closer and closer to the pavement. And the cars are going past very fast of course. And I had to try to make sure that I creeped back away from the pavement again. Sometimes the cars got in the frame and I'd have to erase the picture if it happened because the delay between when the picture was taken and when I pushed the shutter is quite a bit and invariably a car is right in the frame - I saved one with the frame of the car in it."
